WHAT AGE GROUP IS MINIMATION AIMED AT?
MiniMation is suitable for ages 7 and up. It is a satisfying activity for children, teens and adults. Participants can be as ambitious as they like and will always work within their own abilities.
WHICH AREAS DO YOU COVER?
I am based in Lewes, Sussex. For one day workshops I am happy to travel where ever I am required! For courses and parties I cover Lewes, Brighton, Hove, Portslade, Shoreham, Worthing, Haywards Heath, Crawley, East Grinstead, Uckfield, Tunbridge Wells, Crowborough, Polegate, Eastbourne, Seaford and Newhaven.
WHAT IS PROVIDED?
MiniMation templates, drawing equipment, laptop, scanner and monitor. I also bring over 20 years of valuable experience and knowledge of the animation industry at the highest level!
After the session I will provide you with a downloadable video of your MiniMations, to share on social media or your website.
WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE?
Clean, stable tables with enough space for everyone to work at. A plug socket. If there is a large TV or overhead projector I may be able to plug in to it for grand final viewings.
WHAT HAPPENS AT A MINIMATION PARTY?
MiniMation can be tailored to suit your event. But here are a couple of examples of how it could work…
A 2hr childrens party for up to 20 guests would start with a fun introduction to animation before making a quick animated example of the birthday child! Then there’s an hour to create some MiniMations. Kids can watch their animations as soon as they are drawn and be inspired to try another. Each child can do several animations or just concentrate on one if they prefer. Then break for some food and games (not provided) as I edit together a final showcase which can be viewed at the end of the party.
Alternatively, at a bigger party or wedding, we can set up a MiniMation area that people can drop into and create their animations. Towards the end of the party I can edit together a final showcase that can be viewed by all.
In all cases, after the party you will be able to download a video of your MiniMations, which you are free to post on social media and share with your friends.
HOW DO I BOOK A PARTY?
Please get in touch via the contact page. Let me know the date, time, venue, age and amount of guests, your home address and mobile number. A non-refundable deposit of £50 is required to secure your booking. The full payment will be required 3 days before the event.
HOW MUCH DOES A PARTY COST?
Prices start from £175 for a 2hr party. Additional travel costs will be added for areas beyond 15 miles of Lewes.
HOW MANY CAN ATTEND THE PARTY?
A 2hr MiniMation party is ideal for up to 20 children, teens or adults. Or a larger, longer party could have MiniMation as a drop in activity that anyone could try during the course of the afternoon/evening.
WHAT DON’T I PROVIDE AT A PARTY?
Food, party games, party bags.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE AT A CHILDREN’S PARTY?
I cannot be responsible for the sole care of the children so request there are at least 2 adults present to help with behaviour and personal requirements!
Please let me know if you need to cancel the party asap and we can try to rearrange a date. Please note the deposit is non-refundable.
In the unlikely event that I am ill, I will let you know asap and will arrange to send a replacement to run the party in my place. If that is not possible then a full refund will be given. However I will do everything in my power to ensure your party is a success.
WHO CAN BOOK A WORKSHOP?
I cater for schools, colleges, home school groups, youth groups, special needs groups, festivals and events.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF A MINIMATION WORKSHOP?
I can tailor a workshop to suit your needs. But here are a few examples of how it could work…
An hour session starts with a quick introduction to animation – before animating one or more MiniMations. Viewing as we go!
A half-day session, learning the principles of animation, thinking about character design and then bringing your character to life.
A day long workshop that combines voice recording and some pixilation (stop motion with actors). (See ‘Branches’ in the gallery.)
A day’s school visit where I can give an introductory talk to the whole school about ‘How to Create a Animated TV Series’ (using my experience of Boj as an example.) Followed by smaller group MiniMation sessions.
Please get in touch to discuss!
HOW DO I BOOK A WORKSHOP OR A COURSE?
Please get in touch via the contact page to discuss what you require and to get a quote.
WHAT SORT OF COURSES DO YOU RUN?
I have a six week MiniMation course that covers the fundamental theory and skills of drawn animation. Offering quick, satisfying results. The course is ideal for an after school club or arts centre activity.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF A MINIMATION COURSE?
Week 1 - Simple animation exercises
Bouncing ball, blinking eye, abstract pulsing, patterns
Week 2 – Bring your character to life
Design a character to use in future weeks. Define personality traits, unique characteristics, props, settings. Animate character waving
Week 3 – Character movement
Jump cycle, walk cycle, run cycle
Week 4 – Wheels
Animate car over hill, car with panning background
Week 5 – Turnarounds
Designing your character from different angles. Animate head turning around, rotating a 3D object
Week 6 – lipsync
Lipsync a piece of dialogue as a group
DO YOU DO STOP MOTION WORKSHOPS?
No – MiniMation’s point of difference to most courses out there, is that it concentrates on 2D drawn animation.
CAN WE MAKE ANIMATIONS THAT DON’T LOOP OR USE THE TEMPLATE GRIDDED PAPER?
